Anecdotal evidence from LSN indicates that in order to feel pretty good about your chances of admission at Duke Law:

  • If your GPA is 4.0+, you’ll want to have an LSAT Score of 167+
  • If your GPA is 3.9+, you’ll want to have an LSAT Score of 168+
  • If your GPA is 3.7+, you’ll want to have an LSAT Score of 169+
  • Your chances look pretty good with a 174+ LSAT Score as long as your GPA is in the 3.4+ range.

Of course, LSN numbers are self-reported and not verified, so you may want to take those estimates with a grain of salt… but they appear to be relatively consistent with the class profile numbers reported by Duke.

And remember, a relatively low LSAT score doesn’t necessarily preclude you from being admitted at Duke… It doesn’t hurt to apply to Duke as a “reach” school. From the Duke Law School website:

Duke considers all test scores that are submitted in the context of the entire application (transcripts, personal statement, letters of recommendation, evidence of leadership and engagement, and other information).  If you feel that one or more of your test scores does not accurately reflect your ability or potential, please use the Miscellaneous Addendum attachment to explain this disparity.

If your chances aren’t great at Duke, just make sure you also submit applications at target schools (where your LSAT score and GPA numbers at or above the school’s median) and safety schools (where your LSAT score and GPA numbers are at or above the school’s 75th%ile).
